Stay far far away from this place! We thought my dad was being taken care of but turns out he had such bad sores he was almost unable to come back to where he was living even with full time care. He was screaming in pain. Also his watch was stolen and a cheap watch was left at his night table in exchange. He was not bathed, his clothes were not changed and my mother was there every day to witness this. We thought he was being cleaned and cared for. When it came time to pay, my mother paid and then about 3 months later got a bill for several hundred dollars with no explanation. She called and asked for an itemization and instead got another bill and finally a threat that it was going to collections. I hesitate to even give a one star.

So pleasant and friendly. Enjoy visiting with the residents and there is always something to do.

Mean people to work for, I wouldn't let my family stay here. The funny thing is, I just wanted to feel normal, they made me feel worthless

Poor assessment of patients needs. My mother couldn't hold a spoon but she would have starved to death if we didn't feed her. Oftentimes I would feed other starving patients as well. She was on a pureed diet and they're giving her hotdogs. Also kept giving her sugary drinks and desserts (she's diabetic). Fortunately she got better AFTER she left Handmaker. Need more staff.

Unfortunately, many are not inclined to share a glowing review of a nursing facility as they would their favorite pizza place. At the time of this writing, my mom is a resident and is receiving very good care from a largely competent, conscientious and compassionate staff. Not everyone fits this description but what institution/business is completely free of at least a few sub-par people? Additionally, besides being centrally located and proximate to 3 hospitals, the courtyards and grounds are lovely and invigorating for the residents (only caveat is family needs to take them out there) and the facility very clean, which for me is telling. In short, I am very pleased.
