About Hospice - Buffalo
The mission of Hospice Buffalo is to provide hope, care and dignity to patients with a life-threatening illness and their families. Utilizing a team of interdisciplinary health professionals, we provide medical care, emotional and spiritual support to patients who have approximately six months or less to live (Medicare guidelines).
Hospice is a fully covered Medicare benefit. Most insurance plans including Medicaid cover hospice services.
Hospice care is provided in many settings, including the home, hospital, nursing home/assisted living, or at
Hospice Buffalo inpatient units located in Cheektowaga and Buffalo. Hospice Buffalo serves all of Erie County, NY.
Hospice care is aimed at comfort rather than cure. Certain treatments are allowed on a case by case basis if the primary goal is symptom control or comfort for the patient.
Medical studies have shown that Hospice patients live longer than patients that do not receive Hospice care. (March 2007 Journal of Pain and Symptom Management).
