I am displeased with the services my Mom got from Visiting nurse services. Communication with the family on discharging her was a disgrace. You left my Mother & I without even a phone call. You just stopped the service while my Mom was waiting patiently for the aide to come to help her shower. My mother had a stroke before Thanksgiving. She was discharged from Burke rehab where she received excellent care & therapy. They set up follow up care from Visiting Nurse Association. She was entitled to PT, OT, Speech & an aide. (2 to 3 times a week for one hour each) PT & speech communicated with me for a short time & discontinued. Her speech came back quickly. PT stated there was no more they could do at home. They could have tried her with the stairs which are right outside her front door. Her condo is on the ground level. It was winter & cold. Therapist called, came over on a schedule & worked with my Mom to continue to make her stronger. She had difficulty showering & the aide was wonderful helping her. My biggest complaint & the most important after care my Mom needed was OT. She needed OT the most b/c the stroke affected her hands especially her right. She was still having trouble eating, cutting & holding onto things. She worked very hard to try. My biggest complaint was OT which for my Mom was the most important part that she needed. The OT didn't start to see her until 12 days after the other services were already started. At that time speech was already discontinued, PT had her already walking without a walker in her apartment. Then OT only showed up 2x's in one week in the entire 3 week period. Once day was an evaluation & left her a sponge to squeeze. She should have had OT services the entire time. Never heard from him. The saddest part was my Mom's right hand was the weakest part of her from the stroke & OT was the most important therapy that she needed. If the OT services did their job, my Mom would be in a better place today. My 2nd complaint was communication..... I was concerned about OT not coming and was told by a supervisor when she checked the computer that OT would be staying until 1/8 & the aide would be the last to go. . Well on 12/23 my Mom was waiting for the aide to arrive as usual & she was a no show. 12/24 This time I called the rehab dept. supervisor to find out why the aide didn't come???? He told me all my Mom's services have stopped. How can you just cut services without notifying the patient or the family. I will never ever use or recommend your services to anyone. Lorraine Macko
