My experience with A-Med Hospice was beyond disappointing. I will not use them again and I would not recommend them to anyone else. When my Mother was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer, her doctor referred us to A-Med Hospice. The lady who signed us up for hospice assured us that when my Mother was in the final stages of dying that an A-Med nurse would be by her bedside to tend to her 24/7. That did not happen. In fact, I was told by the on call nurse that saw my Mother the day that she died, that was not true, should never have been promised to us and they had a shortage of nurses. So, me and my siblings were left alone to administer the morphine and other medications to try to keep her comfortable during the last 12 hours of my Mother's life. Also, the on call nurse that came the day my Mother died did two very simple things that made her more comfortable. She removed the humidifier from her concentrator and gave her a cannula that was soft, stayed in her nose and did not cut into the sides of her cheeks. Why didn't her regular nurse do that for her 2 weeks earlier? And finally, after my Mother passed away, it took A-Med 2 1/2 hours before they came to the house. I do not feel that my Mother was treated with respect while she was living or after she died.

The team at Amed provided my father compassionate, attentive Care during his last days. The were a comfort to my family, providing us information about the process, answering all our questions and explaining what to expect. Case Manager Donna C. Made quick assessments and was supported by her team to elevated my dad's care when his condition worsened. Ensuring that he had the care he needed. The nursing team of Rachel, Tammy and Gift were attentive and caring making an awful situation bearable. A mere thank you is not nearly enough. The clergy and social worker support helped us obtain information and services easing our burden. If you find yourself in the difficult position of coordinating hospice care, and are looking for advise, please know that I would strongly recommend Amed. --Wanda C.
